The CBMR Tissue Culture Unit (TCU) is constituted by a Biosafety Level 1 (BL1) and a Biosafety Level 2 (BL2) tissue culture rooms. This unit provides the required environment and equipment for a wide range of cell and tissue culture procedures, from maintenance and manipulation of cell lines and tissue samples, to cell observation and data analysis. In addition the unit provides routine mycoplasma detection testing for mammalian cell lines.

The TCU is equipped with 7 laminar flow hoods, 3 CO2 incubators and 2 CO2/O2 incubators that allow the regulation of oxygen levels for hypoxia experiments (0% to 21% O2), 3 inverted microscopes (one of which is a fluorescence microscope coupled to an imaging system, Axiovert 40 cfl Microscope) and accessory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, water bath, refrigerators, freezers).
